Introduction

Royal Oxford Hotel is located on Park End Street in Oxford (OX1 1HR), approximately 500 yards from Oxford Train Station and a five-minute walk from Oxford city centre and Gloucester Green Bus Station.

Oxford’s famous colleges, museums, restaurants and other attractions are all within walking distance of the hotel.

The hotel has 26 en-suite guest bedrooms:

  • 13 double bedrooms
  • 10 twin bedrooms, each with two single beds
  • 1 single bedroom
  • 2 family bedrooms, each with one double bed and one single bed

The building was constructed in 1930 and has been updated with modern features. Due to the age and structure of the building, some features may make access more difficult for guests with limited mobility.

Location and Transport

Park End Street is fully paved.

A number of Oxford taxi operators offer accessible taxi services, including KIT Mobility Taxis Oxford Ltd (01865 435105) and A1 Taxis (01865 248000). Our reception team will be happy to arrange a taxi on request. There is also a taxi rank outside Oxford Train Station.

There are bus stops close to the hotel, with services to various local destinations. Gloucester Green Bus Station is approximately a five-minute walk from the hotel and provides services to London and other destinations. Oxford’s buses are accessible for passengers with disabilities.

For guests arriving from Heathrow or Gatwick Airports, direct and frequent coach services operate between the airports and Oxford. The approximate journey time to Gloucester Green is 90 minutes from Heathrow Airport and 2 to 2½ hours from Gatwick Airport.

There is a grocery store, a newsagent and several fast-food restaurants close to the hotel, as well as a number of restaurants. Westgate Oxford shopping centre is approximately a five-minute walk from the hotel.


Car parking 

There is no parking available at the hotel.

Guests can park at Seacourt Park & Ride on Botley Road (OX2 0HP) for £4.50 per day. For guests travelling from Seacourt Park & Ride, regular bus services operate between the Park & Ride and Oxford city centre, with stops close to the hotel. Bus routes and timetables can change, so we recommend checking the latest information before travelling.

If you are travelling from the A34, you can park at Seacourt Park & Ride before continuing to the hotel. The Park & Ride is located at the beginning of Botley Road, on the left-hand side, just before the Volvo garage.

Seacourt Park & Ride is managed by Oxfordshire County Council and is approximately a two-minute drive from the hotel.

Blue Badge holders can park free of charge in designated on-street parking spaces, subject to local restrictions. Standard charges apply in off-street car parks.

The car parks are well lit throughout the night. Street lighting covers the route from the car park towards the hotel, and the pavement is straight and even.


Main Entrance / Reception / Welcome Area

The main entrance is on Park End Street and is well lit.

There is one step at the main entrance, approximately 7.5 cm high and 100 cm wide. There are no further steps between the main entrance and the reception, lounge area, bar or café.

The main entrance door can be pushed or pulled to open. A bell is provided on the right-hand side of the entrance if you require assistance.

The main door is locked between 10:00 pm and 7:00 am. During these hours, please ring the doorbell and the night porter will open the door for you.

The reception and lounge area are on the ground floor and are level throughout.

There are several comfortable leather sofas and plenty of space for wheelchairs and pushchairs. The area has overhead lighting, wooden flooring and a carpeted area between the sofas.

A hearing loop is available at the reception desk for guests who are deaf or hard of hearing. Pens and pads of paper are also available.

Check-in can be completed at reception, in the lounge area or in your bedroom upon request.

During check-in, our reception team will explain the hotel facilities, provide information about local restaurants and offer local maps. Guests are also escorted to their bedrooms.


Public Areas – Halls, Stairs, Landings and Corridors

All public areas, halls, landings and stairs have overhead lighting.

The corridors are approximately 100 cm wide.

The staircase to the first floor has 20 steps. Each step is approximately 110 cm wide and 17 cm high.

There are a further 18 steps to the second floor.

There are handrails on both sides of the staircase, and the stairs are carpeted.

The hotel does not have a lift.

The Royal Oxford Hotel is a pet-friendly hotel. Pets are welcome to stay with guests, subject to an additional charge.


Bedrooms

All 26 guest bedrooms are located on the first and second floors and are accessed by stairs.

There are 13 bedrooms on the first floor and 13 bedrooms on the second floor.

Rooms beginning with the number 1 are located on the first floor, while rooms beginning with the number 2 are located on the second floor.

There are clear signs directing guests to the bedrooms, and each bedroom has a clearly visible number on the door.

Bedroom doors are approximately 76 cm wide and can be opened fully or left partially open.

Bed heights vary but are approximately 55 cm.

In twin bedrooms, the distance between the beds is approximately 60 cm.

There are no interconnecting bedrooms.

An additional single folding bed can be provided in both family bedrooms, four double bedrooms and one twin bedroom. An additional charge applies for the use of a folding bed.

All bedrooms have good overhead lighting and individual reading lamps above the beds.

The bedrooms have warm light-grey painted walls, dark-grey carpets and beige bed covers and curtains.

Each bedroom has a wooden wardrobe. An additional blanket and non-allergenic pillows are available in the wardrobes.

All bedrooms have direct-dial telephones with large buttons.


Bathrooms and Showers

All bedrooms are en-suite.

Bathroom doors are approximately 76 cm wide and can be opened fully or left partially open.

Twenty-one bathrooms have large walk-in showers. Five bathrooms have a roll-top bath with a non-slip bathmat, a shower over the bath and a glass shower screen.

The bath height is approximately 55 cm.

The WC seat is approximately 42 cm above floor level.

The washbasins are approximately 77 cm high.

All bathrooms have overhead lighting.

The bathrooms have blue, non-slip Altro flooring, grey tiles and white towels, including bath sheets.


Lounge Area

The lobby/lounge area is located within the reception area and is level throughout.

There are several comfortable leather sofas and plenty of space for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

The area has overhead lighting, wooden flooring and a carpeted area between the sofas.

There is no television in the lounge area.

Food and drink are not served in the lounge area. Food and drink can be served in the café, which is accessible from reception.


Café / Dining Room / Bar Area

The café is located on the ground floor and is accessible from reception.

The main doors are approximately 1 metre wide.

There is enough space between the tables for a wheelchair or pushchair.

The tables are approximately 75 cm high.

The café has good lighting provided by ceiling spotlights, and the floor is tiled.

Vegetarian options and other dietary requirements are available.

There is no large-print menu. However, staff can read the menu aloud upon request.

The crockery contrasts in colour with the tables.


Public Toilets / Accessible WC

There are no general public toilets available at the hotel.

The WC located in the café is available to paying customers only. It is accessed via a corridor separate from the restaurant area.

There is level access to the accessible WC, with no steps. The door is approximately 90 cm wide.

There is approximately 1.5 metres of space for a wheelchair when facing the WC.

The WC seat is approximately 42 cm above floor level.

Horizontal and vertical grab rails are provided on the right-hand side of the WC.

The accessible WC has a flashing light and a fire alarm. In an emergency, guests should pull the red alarm cord.

The WC has fluorescent lighting and a tiled, non-slip floor. The taps are metal.


Heating, Air Conditioning, Emergency Systems and Assistance

The hotel has gas central heating throughout. The temperature can be adjusted in each bedroom to suit individual requirements.

The hotel is fully air-conditioned. Each bedroom has an air-conditioning remote control, located either above the writing desk or above the entrance door.

Automatic audible smoke alarms are installed throughout the hotel.

The hotel does not have a lift. Guests are escorted to their bedrooms, and assistance with luggage is available upon request.
